Community Roundtable Discussion Scheduled for May 24 at North Park Library

The public is invited to a roundtable discussion of community issues to be held at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, in the meeting room at the North Park Library, 960 Koehler Dr.

Organizers of the meeting explain the discussion is aimed at gauging public interest in the formation of a group that would study current events, community issues and government activities in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. While the focus and specific activities will be guided by those who are interested and participate as the group develops, the general goal will be to allow interested citizens to come together in a coordinated effort to stay informed and involved in government and the community.

Key participants in Citizens Opposed to Reorganization in Evansville (CORE) – the group that was formed to oppose consolidation of city and county government – explained that by re-grouping, expanding the focus and inviting Evansville and Vanderburgh County residents to participate, the CORE model can continue to be effective as an outlet for community involvement.

Members were asked what the group is going to do next, and they decided to see if there is interest in transforming into a community group with a broad focus that gives everyone an outlet for discussing community affairs in the city and county. They explained they aren’t re-grouping to oppose anything. They will continue to be non-partisan and not limited by neighborhood, township or city boundaries. Any issue important to taxpayers and residents will be discussed.

  1. If this group truly remains non-partisan, and I expect it will. it could be the best thing that ever happened to the Evansville area. The Chamber of Commerce has such a tight grip on City and County government that we are being spent broke. It is time that people who depend on small businesses for their living have a voice in what goes on here.
