September is National Suicide Prevention Month. In the US, a suicide occurs every 12 minutes. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24.

Suicide rates for the state of Indiana and our community are higher than the national average. In 2015, 19.3 percent of Indiana high school students seriously considered attempting suicide, outpacing the national average of 16 percent.

The Castle Give Back Game vs. Mater Dei on Friday, September 22nd, seeks to bring awareness and hope to those affected by suicide.

The event starts at 6:00 pm and will be held at Castle High School’s John Lidy Field.

All are invited to participate in this community event that will include a walk on the track for suicide awareness at 6:30 pm, a balloon release, fireworks, special music, suicide awareness announcements, and sales of t-shirts and promotional items to raise funds for the Tackling Suicide Awareness Fund. Proceeds from this fund will be donated to Youth First, Inc. for social work and prevention services at Castle and Mater Dei high schools.

The media is encouraged to attend.
