On June 18, around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Riverside and Judson, an Evansville police officer witnessed a motor vehicle accident. While driving to the scene to investigate the accident, the driver of one of the vehicles fled the area.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle and it was found a short time later, abandoned, in the area just a few blocks away. Witnesses were able to give officers a description of the driver and that they observed him carrying a handgun.

While looking for the suspect, later identified as Geonovan Marquis Bailey (23), police dispatch received information that he had entered a home in the area that had a juvenile babysitting three younger juveniles. The babysitter, who called dispatch, didn’t know Bailey and was extremely frightened for her safety as well as the three juveniles who she was babysitting.

Bailey told the babysitter to act like he was her boyfriend and after hiding his gun in the house and a change of clothing, Bailey, along with all 4 juveniles exited the residence. He surrendered without causing any further incident. The handgun and Bailey’s clothing were found in the residence. None of the juveniles were harmed.

Some of Bailey’s charges include: burglary- while armed with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement, possession of a firearms by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement, motor vehicle accident- hit and run, and driving while license suspended.Â
