Beth Csukas Medical Bill Fund
On January 16th, while traveling to Indianapolis, Beth Csukas had a car accident. The accident left her with broken ribs and a much more serious condition with bleeding in her brain and swelling. Â As she battles, the bills will mount for her.
Beth has always been the first to jump in line to take care of any friends, family, and complete strangers. Â It’s the reason she became a firefighter for the City of Evansville, she just loves to be there for all of us. Â We all know that she is constantly talking about helping people and she never wants anything in return. Â It’s our time to say thank you when Beth and her family needs it most.
All money raised will go to Beth and her family to use towards bills as they see fit. Â As they stay with her in Neuro ICU in Indianapolis, we want this to be one less thing to have to worry about. Â Your donation will be a way of showing that we all appreciate how much she has given to us all!

Just a guess here Bob, but I think there are probably many other bills that her paycheck took care of that will not be easy to pay now. Plus there are always extra expenses that come with such a tragedy.

Yes, EFD members get health insurance. I don’t know of any health insurance that covers 100% of all expenses incurred by all medical issues. My understanding is the donated money will be used to assist with co-pays, deductibles, and other medical expenses which insurance will not cover or may only partially cover (long term rehab services if necessary, specialized medical equipment for home use, etc.).
Also, travel expenses for family members will likely be extensive. The money can be used to defray costs for transport, meals, hotel stays, missed work, and other expenses.
Insurance covers 80%. She’s going to have a ton of medical bills and her life may be altered forever, requiring extensive care that isn’t cheap. And if she loses her job because she can’t perform her duties, then what? People drool over fire and police for a reason. They are the ones saving you, when you need them the most.
I pointed out the same thing on Twitter to someone over at Courier Press. He said this money will be used for non medical bills. I said by the time people and business get done the family will have $200,000 for non medical expenses? That seems odd, no reply on that of course.
I’m sure she’s a nice gal, but this comes from society’s irrational tendency to slobber all over police and fire post 9/11. I don’t get why she’s treated differently than a nice person from any other profession. I hope she gets well.
Damn, dude. Some friends set up a way to make donations for a person who was badly hurt in a car accident. Happens all the time, for folks from all professions (or no professions).

“Man, that would be a really awesome of folks cared enough to donate that amount of money to somebody who was badly hurt in a car accident!”

Holy cow! Some of these comments are truly foul. If you dont want to donate-dont….end of story. Slobbering all over law enforcement and fire personel? Ya, many of us do, since they risk their lives every time they clock in. Sure, its not as dangerous as flipping burgers, picking up trash or pumping gas….this isnt the first evansville gofundme thats been set up
To help someone….again, you dont want to donate-dont! No need to be snarky asses about it. Apparently none of the posters have ever had to figure out how to take care of their bills, get to the services they need, and try to recover. Shameful comments, in my opinion.
English Bob—I totally “get” what you are saying!! And NO you are NOT being rude, simply asking a question and giving your opinion.
Several years ago my son was assaulted which resulted in a TBI (traumatic brain injury) he was 19 when it happened and In the National Guard. This TBI ended his military career and any other career for that matter. He had to learn to walk etc. spent 3 years in hospitals and rehabs, NO FUNDRAISERS.
He was a nobody, but he IS MY SON ….just a young man who had graduated high school in May and headed to Ft Benning GA the following month to begin his Infantry Training so he could fight for his country! Less than a year later he would be stripped of that. He had to pay back every penny of the enlistment bonus he received! The KY National Guard could not wait to get me to sign papers on him so he could receive his honorable discharge papers (the sooner the better) for several weeks he was 50-50 weather he would survive. The military was only concerned about having to pay out that insurance money if he would’ve died!
Soon after we started receiving the demands for repayment of enlistment bonus!
I hope and pray Beth makes a speedy recovery, and I pray her family continues to receive support etc I did not have that! I look back now and have no idea how I survived those years!
I’m thankful he survived! Brain injury is a hidden epidemic, it’s just as bad as cancer but does not get the recognition that it needs to!
Everybody should be treated equal shouldn’t matter your job title!
