ATV Safety Program Unveiling

Indiana Conservation Officers with the DNR Law Enforcement Division, along with the DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation will be unveiling an ATV safety awareness program on September 13, 1 to 4 pm.  The location of the unveiling is East 5th Street English, IN.

Two department vehicles have been designed and wrapped with an ATV safety message to be used by Officers and DNR personnel in events, parades and public appearances across the state.  The funding for the Law Enforcement vehicle was donated by the Reyling family of English, IN, who lost their son in an ATV accident on January 1, 2004.  The Reyling family has coordinated this event to bring awareness to ATV safety in memory of their son, Kenny.  (see their story at this link:  http://www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/2758.htm).

“Over 200 people are injured and an average of 16 fatalities in ATV accidents per year in Indiana over the past several years has increased the need for public awareness”, said Indiana Conservation Officer’s Outdoor Education Lieutenant Larry Morrison.  “This event is a step in the right direction to reducing the risk to our citizens when operating ATV’s.

Indiana Conservation Officers will be conducting an educational demonstration of safe ATV instruction for their officers for the public to view at this event.

The public and media are invited to attend.  Live music featuring TRIPWIRE band and food provided by English Parks Department will be available. Crawford County EMS and Air Evac will also be at this event.
