ATTORNEY CHARLES L. BERGER SELECTED AS A CITY-COUNTY OBSERVER 2021 “OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE” AWARD WINNER

The City-County Observer is excited to announce that prominent local attorney Charles L. Berger as our first “Outstanding Community Services Award” winners for 2021.

Charles L. Berger has a repetition of taking on issues that help protect the disenfranchised and downtrodden. Charlie is an extremely private and soft-spoken person. However, when he’s in the courtroom defending the rights of his clients he becomes an extremely aggressive and effective Doctor of Jurisprudence.

Much to his credit, he is currently taking issue with the way that the Superintendent of the Vanderburgh School system is conducting the people’s business behind closed doors. Mr. Berger is also speaking out on behalf of the EVSC teachers and students concerning the safety protocol used in the classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s also taking on the issues pertaining to the less than the attractive salary and benefits compensation packages that EVSC teachers and support staff are currently receiving.

Mr. Berger is also questioning the excessive salaries, benefits, and perks that the EVSC Superendient Of Schools and his top administrators are receiving while our classroom teachers are been under-compensated. We also like that he is also questioning political patronage and nepotism practices at the EVSC.

We consider Charles L. Berger not only a  “Crusader For The Public Good” but also a “Public Watch Dog” that demands that our appointed and elected officials become  “Good Steward Of The Public Trust”.

Mr. Berger graduated from the University of Evansville in 1969, with a major in history and a minor in political science. Lettered in football. Member of Phi Kappa Phi, honorary fraternity.

He also graduated from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1972. Received Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors.

He has practiced law in Evansville for 45 years. Admitted to the bar, 1972, Indiana, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana and U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit; 1975, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; 1977, U.S. Supreme Court; 1981, U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky; 1984, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.  Director, Indiana Lawyers’ Commission, 1973-1977.

His Professional Memberships and Achievements are:
