The Purple Aces play their first Saturday game of the season this weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s basketball team hopes to bounce back from a tough home loss down in Martin.
A cold fourth quarter on offense doomed Evansville in its return to Meeks Family Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening against the Bellarmine Knights. Despite leading for over 30 minutes, the Aces suffered a 64-58 loss after a scoreless streak of three minutes midway through the fourth quarter. UE did have a strong game on the defensive side of the ball particularly at the glass.
In back-to-back games, Evansville has outrebounded its opponent, including a new program record on Sunday against Chicago State. Wednesday night the Aces had 50 rebounds including 18 offensive boards to control the glass. The Aces had 70 rebounds against Chicago State in their first win of the season last weekend. The 70 rebounds replaced the former program record of 67 boards set at Creighton on March 5, 2005.
The UT Martin Skyhawks are looking for their first win on Saturday afternoon and the program’s 700th win. UT Martin currently has a six-game losing streak, its longest under Head Coach Kevin McMillan since he joined the Skyhawks program in 2010. UT Martin’s leaders are mostly underclassmen as redshirt freshman Kenley McCarn leads the team on offense. On defense the Skyhawks rely on sophomore Anaya Brown as she averages 6.7 rebounds a game along with adding 11 points.
UE has rocketed into the Top 10 nationally at the free throw line. Following another game with over 20 chances at the charity stripe, Evansville is sixth in the country for free throw attempts per game and lead the Missouri Valley Conference. Along with having several chances at the line, the Aces make a high number of those to be fifth in the nation in free throws made per game. Currently, UE is averaging 19.33 made free throws across six games. Evansville is also in the Top 50 for rebounds a game after the past week, averaging 43.3 boards.
