Joining the Aces as the sixth signing for next season, Gala Camarena comes to the River City for the 2021-22 campaign.

Camarena joins Australian teammates Elly Morgan and Kodie Myszka, transfer Celine Dupont, prolific scorer Je’Naiya Davis, and local freshman Maycee Lange as signees for the upcoming campaign.

“Gala is exactly the kind of point guard we were looking for,” said Aces head women’s basketball coach Robyn Scherr-Wells. “She is competitive, driven, and knows how to put her teammates in position to be successful on the floor. She is a pass first point guard, but also has the ability to score in transition, shoot the three, and make the defense pay in ball screen action. We are thrilled Gala has chosen UE!”

Camarena comes to Evansville from Tavernes de la Valldigna, Valencia, Spain after a decorated prep career. Playing most recently for CB TerrAlfas in Valencia, Camarena averaged 15 points, while adding five boards and six assists.

“I chose the university of Evansville, because since the beginning the women’s basketball coaches and staff showed me that they wanted me and trusted me as a player,” said Camarena on why she chose UE. “That confidence made me accept the offer quickly. I feel like I will be an important player on the team and in this family. The university facilities are amazing. For me, it’s a dream joining this team.”

Camarena has also appeared for her hometown club, CB Tavernes, and played five seasons for Valencia Basket. Like her new teammate Celine Dupont, Camarena has also played on the international stage, being selected to the Spanish u15 National Team. Camarena was also named to the Valencia community u16 team in 2019.
