LETTER TO EDITOR: Ensure People Of Color Have Access To Culturally Competent Mental Health Resources
My name is Jasmine and I’m a recovery advocate and internet activist. My purpose is to ensure People of Color have access to culturally competent mental health resources. The disparity in access to mental health resources has created inequities that have affected generations, but we can make a stand together.
I really appreciate the action you’ve taken in posting so many great resources on https://city-countyobserver.com/how-to-do-and-talk-art-in-recovery-and-reimagining-times/ to support the community. Your support is empowering and an important part of the solution!
However, I didn’t see anything that specifically pertains to substance use prevention in the BIPOC community. Providing access to culturally competent mental health care is essential.
These guides do a great job of addressing this key issue for People of Color *and* their allies:
- Southeast Detox – New for 2023, this guide features dozens of resources to help Black women rise and THRIVE in 2023
- Live Another Day – Live Another Day believes in equal access to life-saving mental health and substance use resources. This website provides extensive information on the best resources available.
- Louisville Addiction Center – Being a parent is hard, and BIPOC parents face unique challenges. This guide features 32 resources for BIPOC parents.
I think adding these links to your existing collection could go a long way toward more fully supporting People of Color and our allies. It also helps by sending a strong message that these issues matter and change is always possible!
What are your thoughts on including these resources on your page?
