Sophomore forward Zach Barton (St. Louis, Missouri) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead University of Southern Indiana Men’s Soccer to a 2-1, come-from-behind Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over visiting Quincy University Friday evening at Goebel Soccer Complex.

Barton used a pass from senior defender Justin Brooks (Fishers, Indiana) to tie the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute of the contest. He used a feed from junior defender Colten Walsh (St. Louis, Missouri) to find the back of the net in the 86th minute to give the Screaming Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. Both of Barton’s shots were the only two shots on goal for the Eagles throughout the 90-minute affair.

Quincy (3-2, 3-2 GLVC), which had won three straight matches, kept the pressure on USI’s defense throughout the contest, firing off 17 shots including six on goal. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the opening half as Jack Rhead scored in the 30th minute.

USI (2-2, 2-2 GLVC), however, got a strong effort from senior goalkeeper Justin Faas (Carmel, Indiana), who had five stops between the posts to pick up his 22nd career win.

The Eagles, winners of two straight, return to action Sunday at noon when they take on Truman State University in the first half of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Strassweg Field.
