Eagles stumble against Drury

The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team dropped a GLVC contest to Drury University, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles see their record go to 3-3-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the GLVC, while the Panthers rise to 2-4-0, 2-2-0 GLVC.

The first goal of the match came in the early minutes of the contest. Drury’s David Cross headed in a corner kick just shy of the four minute mark to provide the 1-0 advantage for the Panthers.

The first half was played evenly, as the Eagles and Panthers tied in corner kicks with two and the Panthers earned six shots to USI’s four.

In the second half, the Panthers gained a two-goal advantage on a penalty kick by Ben Bruce just past the 71st minute. Drury earned the penalty kick after the Eagles were penalized for a handball in the box.

Overall, Drury edged the Eagles in shots 15-14 and corners 5-4.

The Eagles hit the road next weekend to face Rockhurst University at 7:30 pm on Friday night in Kansas City, Missouri before travelling to Liberty, Missouri to face William Jewell College at 2:30 pm on Sunday afternoon.
