Women’s Soccer Makes Long Anticipated Return to the Pitch

The long-awaited return to the pitch for the University of Evansville women’s soccer program takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. as the Purple Aces take on Illinois State at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

“After being inside for the past four weeks and not having a game in over a year it will be nice to finally play,” head coach Chris Phau said. “We are excited to get going and look forward to a game tomorrow. UE and our athletic department has done a great job of keeping our student-athletes safe.”

Know the Aces

  • The Purple Aces enter year one under a familiar face in head coach Chris Pfau. Pfau was promoted to head of the UE women’s soccer program in December 2019. Pfau, who returned to the Aces sideline as an assistant coach in May of 2019 will begin his second stint as the Aces head coach, serving at the top spot from 2005-07.
  • Evansville returns the top two goal scores from 2019, with Emily Ormson and Emily Wolak. Ormson also led the Aces in points and shot attempts, while Wolak was a main component for the Aces mid-field.
  • UE returns eight starters from a season ago, including second team all-MVC Wolak and all-Freshman Kristen Harvey.
  • Returning for her senior season is Aces goalkeeper Michaela Till, who posted 90 saves with a .763 goals-against-average. Till ranks fourth all time in career saves with 254.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Georgia Katsonouri was called up to the Cyprus National Women’s Soccer Team back in November 2020 to play in the UEFA Women’s Euro qualifiers.
  • It has been 482 days since the Aces have seen game action, after falling 1-0 to Missouri State on Nov. 3, 2019 in the first round of the MVC Championship. UE finished the 2019 season 2-12-7, 1-4-2 MVC.
  • Evansville was picked seventh in the MVC Preseason poll.

Know the Redbirds

  • Illinois State enters this weekend’s match 0-2 with losses to Marquette (2-3) and Saint Louis (1-3).
  • Last time out against the Redbirds the Aces fell 3-0 on Oct. 6, 2019 at Normal, Ill.
  • This is the 30th meeting overall between Illinois State and Evansville with ISU holding an 18-8-3 record over the Aces.
  • The early goal leader for the Redbirds is Ashley Santos, who has scored two goals in two games for Illinois State.

  • Aces soccer tickets will not be for sale for the general public for the 2021 season. Attendance will be limited to invited friends and family of the home and away teams and a limited number of student tickets.
