EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Women’s Golf came up short in the cross-town battle against University of Evansville at Cambridge Golf Course, 2.5-5.5 pts.

All eight women’s golfers competed on Thursday in a 18-hole Ryder Cup-esque match play singles format, where each Screaming Eagle faced off with a Purple Ace one-on-one looking to win more holes than the other. In the result of a tie, each university received a half point.

The lone sole winner for the Eagles was sophomore Alexis Wymer who defeated her opponent in 17 holes. Freshman Camryn LuthyZhana Navato, and Jade Blakeley halved their opponents earning 0.5 points. Grasping 2.5 points shows vast improvement from 2023, when the Eagles failed to record any points against the Purple Aces.

Wymer finished with an impressive 69 thru 17 holes, totaling two birdies and 12 pars. Although, Thursday’s format ended with a victory in 17 holes for Wymer, the sophomore’s previous best 18-hole score was a 79.

Luthy fought back to earn a tie after trailing by one hole after 15 holes. The freshman finished with her career best round of 85. Navato found her groove on the back nine, shooting a 36 and finishing with a 77 tying her opponent. The freshman’s back nine featured one boggy, seven pars, and a birdie.

Blakeley added a consistent round halving her opponent with a 77 marking her second-best round as an Eagle. Freshman Fernanda Vera also recorded a respectable round of 77, but came up one hole short of her opponent.
