A wanted felon is in custody this evening after leading the Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit through the southern part of the city.
On Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1:21 PM Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Indiana State Police troopers and Evansville Police officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force attempted to stop a dark green 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by wanted felon David Anthony Zachary.
Zachary fled in the vehicle, leading authorities on a 25 minute pursuit that wound through the southeast and southwest areas of the city. Speeds of the pursuit reached 50 mph. The vehicle came to a stop in the bushes of a residence at the corner of Boeke Road and John Court. Zachary fled on foot and was tracked by a Sheriff’s Office K-9 assigned to the Marshals Service Task Force.
Zachary was located in the yard of a residence at the corner of Harper Avenue and Sycamore Street. Zachary surrendered to the K-9 team and was taken into custody without further incident.
During the pursuit, Zachary’s vehicle made contact with two different vehicles. There were no reported injuries and only minor damage involved.
Mr. Zachary had an active felony warrant for violating the terms of his probation, which stemmed from a September 2017 arrest for Reckless Driving and Resisting Law Enforcement. Mr. Zachary is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail with no bond.
