The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) will be conducting a COVID testing clinic in Evansville/Vanderburgh County this Friday and Saturday. Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke supports the IDOH strike team’s efforts to conduct COVID-19 testing at the CK Newsome Center, 100 E Walnut St, in downtown Evansville.Â
The testing will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 27th and 28th, from noon to 8 p.m. The IDOH strike team is able to test 300 individuals each day. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be offered to any individual over the age of 16. Testing and vaccinations will be free to the public.
As COVID-19 case numbers steadily increase, demand for local testing sites has been identified. Vanderburgh County Health Department (VCHD) was asked by IDOH to identify a suitable location for the testing clinic. The CK Newsome Center was identified because of its previous success.Â
The VCHD is grateful to Mayor Winnecke and Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer for their immediate response to meet the needs of the community with one of the city’s facilities in a short amount of time. The clinic will utilize IDOH staff and supplies for testing and vaccination. Support will be provided by the VCHD, and the City of Evansville as needed. The partnership between VCHD and IDOH will be instrumental in identifying positive cases and mitigate disease spread within our community. Â
