USI’s Winter named to All-Tourney team

University of Southern Indiana senior middle blocker Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) was named to the Mizuno/Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament team for her efforts in leading the Screaming Eagles’ volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record in the 36-team event.

 

Winter averaged 3.40 kills and 2.10 blocks per set as the Eagles posted wins over Northwood University (Michigan), Wayne State University, and Lake Superior State University.

 

In USI’s three-set sweep over Northwood Friday, Winter had 15 kills, a .400 attacking percentage, and two blocks. She returned to the court Saturday to post 11 kills, a .350 attacking percentage, five digs, and nine blocks in the Eagles’ four-set win over Wayne State.

 

Winter concluded the weekend with an eight-kill, 10-block performance in USI’s three-set win over Lake Superior State.

 

For the weekend, Winter had 34 kills, a .265 attacking percentage, 21 blocks, and two service aces. She also averaged 4.80 points per frame.

 

Winter leads the Eagles this season with 3.91 points and 1.40 blocks per set. She is third on the team with 2.87 kills per frame.

 

The All-Tournament teams consisted of six Great Lakes Valley Conference players, six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players, and two Great Midwest Athletic Conference players. GLVC teams went 28-20 at the Crossover, while GLIAC and GMAC schools were 24-24 and 2-10, respectively.

 

USI returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts the University of Indianapolis in its “Dig for the Cure” match at the Physical Activities Center.
