In 2013, the Department of Kinesiology and Sport will add three fun runs for young children to their annual running series. TheKids Fun Runs Series is free and open to the public and will consist of the Cupid, Pot of Gold, and Flower fun runs. Age groups will range from 2 to 10, and distances from 50 meters to a half mile.
The fun run series is made possible through a Service Learning Program grant, and is being added to the Screaming Eagles Running Series that includes the annual Hearts on Fire 5K, in its third year; the Run of Luck 7K, in its 13th year; and the Spring Into Fitness 10K, new this year. The series was created to cultivate the health and well-being of the Greater Evansville Community, while providing educational opportunities for students and developing partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
“Students are truly engaged in a learning community that advances education and knowledge,†said Dr. Glenna Bower, associate professor of physical education and chair of Kinesiology and Sport.
Each race of the kids runs will include a funfest celebration for both adults and children, including free food and giveaways, inflatables, and multiple vendors. “Every funfest will make a wonderful ending to each of the races in the series,†said Bower.
The Cupid and Shamrock funfests will be held inside the USI Recreation and Fitness Center. The Flowerfest will be held outdoors and will coincide with additional activities.
