University of Southern Indiana junior Lauren Greiwe (West Harrison, Indiana) was named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Runner of the Week for women’s cross country Tuesday afternoon in an announcement by the league office.
Greiwe was the top OVC finisher at the Bradley “Pink” Classic this past Friday, finishing 35th out of 309 competitors with a personal-best six-kilometer time of 21 minutes, 11.9 seconds. Her time pushed her to No. 8 on the program’s all-time 6K list and helped lift the Screaming Eagles to a 16th-place finish in the 38-team field.
Other OVC teams in the field included Eastern Illinois University, Southeast Missouri State University, SIU Edwardsville and Lindenwood University. The Eagles were the top finishing team from the OVC, edging out 17th-place finisher Eastern Illinois by 53 points.
Tuesday’s honor marks the second time this season Greiwe has netted co-OVC Runner of the Week honors. She became the first USI Women’s Cross Country runner in program history to earn OVC Runner of the Week accolades after garnering the honor following her efforts at the Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open last month.
USI wraps up its first season as an NCAA Division I competitor when it partakes in the OVC Championships October 29 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
