USI Women’s Soccer looks to the road to get on track

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Soccer looks to the road to get back on track when it makes visits to Lewis University Friday in Romeoville, Illinois, and the University of Illinois Springfield Sunday in Springfield, Illinois. Kick off at Lewis is slated for 3 p.m., while start time at Illinois Springfield is scheduled for noon.

All broadcasts on GLVCSN are subject to weather or other unforeseen circumstances that could prevent the games from being broadcast.

FAN NOTE: Fans are allowed to attend athletic events at Lewis University by following the guidelines found on the Lewis University website (Link). Illinois Springfield is not allowing visiting fans at this time.

Following the season opener the first road trip of the season, USI returns home to host Quincy University March 12 and Truman State University March 14 at Strassweg Field (USI Fan Attendance Policy).

Week 2 – Eagle Game Notes

Eagles lose heartbreaker in the opener: The Eagles lost a heartbreaker in the season-opener, falling to the University of Indianapolis, 2-1, on a goal with 19.5 seconds to play. Junior forward Katlyn Andres had USI’s goal in the first half that propelled the Eagles to a 1-0 lead through halftime.

Schoenstein is in his 5th year: USI Head Coach Eric Schoenstein is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Eagles, producing a 41-27-9 mark, the 2019 GLVC Tournament championships, a share of the 2018 GLVC regular season title, three-straight GLVC Tournament appearances, and an appearance in the 2019 NCAA II Tournament.

USI vs. Lewis: USI leads the all-time series with Lewis, 15-5-4, after the squads tied, 1-1, in double overtime in 2019 at Strassweg Field. The Eagles are 2-0-2 in the last four matches with the last three matches going to double overtime.

Lewis this spring: The Flyers are off to a slow start this spring with a 0-1-1 mark after week one. Lewis tied the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 0-0, in double-overtime to start the year and fell 3-0 at McKendree University to end the first weekend.

USI vs. Illinois Springfield: USI has a commanding 9-0-2 all-time series record versus Illinois Springfield following a 3-1 victory in 2019. The Eagles are 4-0-1 in the last five matches with the Prairie Stars.

Illinois Springfield this spring: The Prairie Stars split its first two matches, losing the opener, 1-0, at Lindenwood University and won, 1-0, at UMSL to conclude the weekend. The Stars are slated to host McKendree before hosting USI Sunday.
