USI opens GLVC schedule vs. Quincy​​​​​​​

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball opens the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this week when it hosts Quincy University for a four-game series. The series starts Friday with a 6 p.m. single game, continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader, and concludes Sunday with a noon finale.

USI Baseball Notes:

USI vs. Quincy: The Eagles trail all-time series with the Hawks, 48-41, after splitting six games last spring. USI lost three of four with Quincy at home during the regular season but bounced back to win both meetings in the GLVC Tournament at Lindenwood University.
 
Eagles in 2022: USI is .500 this spring, going 11-11 in the early non-conference portion of the campaign. The Eagles have stuggled of late, going 4-6 in the last 10 games, but are 5-3 versus ranked opponents.
 
Quincy in 2022: Quincy is 12-10 overall this spring, 3-1 in the GLVC, after taking three of four from the University of Illinois Springfield at home last weekend. The Hawks are 5-5 in their last 10 outings.
 
Predicted in the GLVC:  USI was predicted to place third in the GLVC Blue Division, while Quincy was forecast to finish second in the Blue Division.      
 
Eagle Leaders: USI junior infielder/catcher Lucas McNew (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) leads the Eagles with a .364 batting average; nine doubles; four home runs; and 32 RBIs. He also is third on the team with 20 runs scored. Senior shortstop Ethan Hunter (Terre Haute, Indiana) follows McNew with a .348 batting average, two home runs, and 19 RBIs.  
 
On the mound, senior right-hander Brice Stuteville (Rockport, Indiana) has a team-best three wins each. Junior left-hander Sammy Barnett (Sellersburg, Indiana) has a team-best 1.54 ERA in five appearances and two starts.  

Hunter all-time at USI: USI senior infielder Ethan Hunter continues to move up the all-time lists for USI. Hunter ranks first in triples (16); 11th total bases (318); 12th in RBIs (133) and tied for 13th in home runs (16); tied for eighth in runs scored (154); 11th in hits (208); and 21st in doubles (30).
 
McNew all-time at USI: Junior infielder/catcher Lucas McNew is starting his move up the all-time rankings at USI. He is tied for 19th in doubles (33); tied for 13th in home runs (16); and 21st in RBIs (101).  
 
Archuleta at USI: USI Head Coach Tracy Archuleta is in his 16th season at the helm of the Screaming Eagles. He has a USI record of 517-296 during his 16 season and has a 19-year record of 665-420 (5 years University of Wisconsin-Parkside; 16 years USI).
