Eagles also reschedule Illinois Springfield for February 2
University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball versus McKendree University is back on the schedule for Saturday afternoon. The tip-off is set for the original 3:15 p.m. start.
USI and McKendree were able to put the game back on the regular schedule after the Center for Disease Control (CDC) amended its COVID-19 quarantine guidelines from 14 days to 10 days last week. The Screaming Eagles had originally postponed their games versus the University of Illinois Springfield (December 3), Lewis University (December 5) and McKendree under the old rules.
In addition to putting Saturday’s match-up with McKendree back on the schedule, USI and Illinois Springfield have re-scheduled their postponed game for February 2 at 7 p.m.
USI Men’s Basketball vs. McKendree Quick Notes:
Eagles postponed. USI has been idle since November 29 due to COVID-19 quarantine. The Screaming Eagles were forced to postpone their games versus the University of Illinois Springfield and Lewis University.
Gouard gets first USI win. USI Head Coach Stan Gouard posted his first win at the helm of the Screaming Eagles in the 81-51 victory over William Jewell College.
USI wins number 1,000. The Screaming Eagles won their 1,000th program victory in the 81-51 victory over William Jewell November 29.
2020-21 Eagle leaders. Senior forwards Emmanuel Little and Josh Price lead USI after the first weekend with 19 points per game each. Both posted 15 points in the opener versus Rockhurst University and 23 in the victory over William Jewell College.
Little climbing in the record books. Senior forward Emmanuel Little moved into 11th all-time at USI with 1,207 career points, 19 points away from entering the top 10 in program history. Little also is fifth all-time with 730 career rebounds, 52 behind fourth place Billy Harris (782).
Price is right for double-doubles. Senior forward Josh Price posted back-to-back double-doubles to start the year. Price had 15 points and 11 rebounds in the opener versus Rockhurst and 23 points and 17 rebounds in the win over William Jewell. Price is averaging 19 points and 14 rebounds through the two games.
Simmons led Eagles in the opener. Junior guard Jelani Simmons led the Eagles during the season-opening loss to Rockhurst with 26 points. The 26 points was a collegiate career-high for Simmons, who is averaging 16.0 points per game to start the season
USI vs. McKendree. USI holds a commanding 13-8 overall record versus the McKendree, including eight of the last nine meetings. The Eagles split last year’s match-ups, falling 68-64 on the road and winning 72-69 at Screaming Eagles Arena.
McKendree in 2020-21. McKendree is 2-0 to start the year with half of it games postponed due to COVID-19. The Bearcats defeated Rockhurst University, 87-75, November 29 and Missouri University of Science & Technology, 89-86, in overtime December 3.
USI hits the road. USI is slated to hit the road for the next four games after Saturday. The Eagles are scheduled to visit the University of Indianapolis December 20; Truman State University January 3; Quincy University January 6; and McKendree January 9. USI’s next scheduled home date is January 16 versus UIndy.
