USI Continues GLVC Tournament Run Friday​​​​​​​

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Soccer returns to action in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with the semifinals at 10 am. Friday versus the University of Missouri-St. Louis in Springfield, Missouri. The GLVC Tournament semifinals and championship match is being hosted by Drury University at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.

USI (11-5-2), the fifth seed, continues tournament action against UMSL (8-7-3), who is the eighth seed, while Drury (13-4-1), the second seed, plays Missouri University of Science & Technology (9-5-3), the sixth seed, in the second semifinal match at noon Friday.

The GLVC Tourament championship match is slated for Sunday at noon. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA II Tournament.

USI Women’s Soccer Week 11 Notes:

USI in the GLVC Tournament: The Eagles are making their 14th appearance in the GLVC Tournament overall in 2021 and are in search of their second conference tournament championship. USI is 10-13-1 all-time in the conference tournament after winning the GLVC Tournament Championship in 2019 and reaching the finals last spring.

Eagles on a roll to end the season: After starting the GLVC season 0-4-1, the Eagles won a school-record tying seven-straight matches and have won nine of their last 10 matches.

For the season: Sophomore midfielder Jill DiTusa (St. Charles, Illinois) leads the Eagles in scoring with 13 points on a team-high six goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Avery Schone (Galena, Ohio) and sophomore forward Morgan Beyer (Rossford, Ohio) follow with 12 points each. Schone is tied for the team lead with five goals and two assists, while Beyer has four goals and four assists. Beyer and DiTusa are tied for the team-lead in game-winning goals with three each.

Etienne between the posts: Sophomore goalkeeper Maya Etienne (Midland, Michigan) has a team-best seven shutouts this season, raising her career total to a school-record 28 in two-plus seasons. She will shatter the former USI mark (27.5) that had been held by Angie Gries since 1999.

Schoenstein is second all-time at USI: Head Coach Eric Schoenstein is second all-time at USI with a 64-35-14 mark in five-plus years at the helm of the Eagles. He has led the Eagles to their only GLVC regular season and tournament championships, along with the program’s second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

UMSL in 2021: UMSL rolls into the GLVC semifinals after knocking off top-seeded McKendree University with a double-overtime tie and advancing on penalty kicks. The Tritons have played well in the last 11 matches, going 5-3-3.

USI versus UMSL: USI is tied with UMSL in the all-time series, 13-13-1, after falling to the Tritons on the road, 2-1, during the final weekend of the regular season. The Eagles have taken three of the last five matches, going 3-1-1.

Drury in 2021: Drury ran through most of the fall campaign, winning 10 of 11 to start the year before hitting a rough patch, going 0-3-1, and regaining its footing with three-straight victories.

USI versus Drury: USI holds a 9-8-0 all-time series lead over Drury after defeating the Panthers, 2-1, last month in Springfield. With the regular season win, the Eagles have won the last six matches against the Panthers.

Missouri S&T in 2021: Missouri S&T has had a strong October and start of of the GLVC Tournament, going 6-3-3 in the last 11 matches. The victories include a win over McKendree University during the regular season and a win over third-seed Truman State University in the GLVC Tournament.

USI versus Missouri S&T: The Miners lead the all-time series with USI, 11-7-1, but the Eagles have won the last five meetings. The Eagles took the conference match this fall, 3-1, at Strassweg Field.
