Steering Committee Collaborate with Southwestern Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for 40-Hour
CIT Training School-The Evansville Police Department, in partnership with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s
Office and the Southwestern Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, is proud to announce the commencement of a
40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training school. This training will take place February 5th through
February 9th from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. daily at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Evansville Manor Annex (3700
Washington Ave.).
CIT training is a vital program that equips law enforcement professionals with specialized skills to
effectively respond to crisis situations involving mental health issues. The comprehensive curriculum covers
recognizing signs of mental illness, trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and procedures for
emergency detentions. CIT is instrumental in fostering collaboration between law enforcement, mental health
professionals, and the community, promoting a compassionate and effective approach to crisis intervention.
