Evansville, IN – Through funding received from the Empowering Employment Grant of the United Way of Southwest Indiana, Ivy Tech Community College Evansville is now offering Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A); and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) non-credit programs, where qualifying individuals may earn a credential for a flat fee of $500.

Classes begin in March.

Ivy Tech was awarded $84,000 to provide scholarships and job placement for participants in these two programs through Ivy Tech’s IvyBridges program. IvyBridges is designed to assist unemployed or under-employed community members living in Vanderburgh County to obtain the credentials they need to gain employment. The program will provide support services while the student is working on their credentials, and then bridge the final gap between completing the credential and obtaining stable employment.

“We are pleased the United Way has allocated this funding to Ivy Tech to help individuals in our community,” said Daniela Vidal, Ivy Tech Evansville chancellor. “These professions are in great need of more skilled individuals, and Ivy Tech’s four-week non-credit programming and internships will allow these students to get on their feet quickly.”

IvyBridges will offer participants a flat enrollment rate, credential completion in four weeks, and on-the-job training for four weeks following their course completion in either CDL or HVAC.
