Fernando Morales And Jesus Echevarria Representing UE

University of Evansville head volleyball coach Fernando Morales is in Puerto Rico this summer leading the first-ever training camp for native Puerto Rico players who are currently active in the NCAA.  The camp serves as an opportunity to develop and evaluate players for the National Program and a potential future on the U23 Puerto Rico National Team.

Joining Morales in leading the camp is assistant Jesus Echevarria, who works for the Purple Aces volleyball program as a Graduate Assistant.  Other National Program coaches are also on staff, including Hector “Picky” Soto who will be featured as a coach when the UE volleyball program holds its summer camps next week.

The coaching staff is not the only representation of the UE program at the camp.  Current Aces players Melanie Feliciano and Alondra Vazquez are taking part and are among the group of players being evaluated for a future in the National Program.

“We have a great group with a lot of talent,” Morales exclaimed.  “Melanie and Alondra are doing great; they have the advantage of knowing the system. They are shining in many different ways.”

Set to begin her third season at UE, Melanie Feliciano commented on what the experience has been like from her point of view.

“I feel very happy and excited for being part of this talented group,” she said.  “The staff have offered excellent feedback and the players have shown dedication, commitment and great skills.”

As part of the training camp, the group will take part in an exhibition match against a selection of players from the Liga Superior de Voleibol Femenino of the Puerto Rico Women’s Professional Volleyball League.  It will take place on Sunday, July 11 at 3 p.m. CT.
