Aces To Be Recognized For Community Service Before The Game
An exciting day is on tap as the University of Evansville softball team welcomes Southern Illinois to Cooper Stadium for a 5 p.m. game on Wednesday afternoon.
It will mark the home finale for UE as they will travel to Loyola over the weekend to complete the regular season. The team will also be recognized for their record community service hours. As a team, the Aces accumulated close to 1,000 hours to 24 organizations.
Evansville stands at 22-23 and 10-12 in MVC play following a pair of losses to Missouri State over the weekend. UE has won four of its last five MVC series, a streak the program has not seen since 2013. With 10 victories in league play, the Aces are having one of their best seasons over the last 12 years. The program notched 11 wins in 2008 and 2013 and 12 in 2007. A 13-12 mark in 2004 marked the last time UE finished conference play at .500 or above.
Morgan Lambert is the Aces’ leading hitter in league play, batting .420 with 21 hits in 50 at-bats in conference games. She has notched three home runs and 13 RBI. On defense, Lambert has been just as good, checking in with a .981 fielding percentage in conference play and a .984 effort overall. She has been a consistent hitter all season, raising her average to .318.
In two games against Missouri State this weekend, Morgan Florey threw seven innings while finishing with a 1.00 ERA. She went the distance in the opener against the Bears, allowing just one run while striking out three. In the second game, she supplied the offense for the Purple Aces, hitting a 2-run home run, her sixth of the season. She is now tied for the team lead with six homers and 22 RBI. In conference play, she leads the squad with 19 runs batted in.
Southern Illinois has notched a 30-17 overall mark and stand at 13-9 in the Valley. Shaye Harre is their top hitter, checking in at .350. She also has 11 home runs and 36 RBI, both team highs. In the circle, Brianna Jones is a force for the Salukis, winning 21 games while registering a 1.80 ERA
