The University of Southern Indiana will host Present Perfect: A Showcase of Past Visiting Artists, the first exhibition of the 2021-22 academic year, from August 23 to October 8 in the McCutchan Art Center / Pace Galleries.

Present Perfect features the works of three artists who have given workshops to USI students previously but have not exhibited at the university before. Each artist will have their own dedicated space within the Galleries as part of the exhibition.

  • Martha Grover, a functional potter from Bethel, Maine who makes exceptionally well-crafted functional pieces, led a workshop at USI in fall of 2016.
  • Michael Nichols, Professor of Art at Western Kentucky University who is primarily a figurative painter working in buon fresco paintins, gave a workshop at USI in fall of 2017.
  • James R. Southard, Senior Lecturer at the University of Kentucky working in photography and digital media on creating groups of work that can vacillate the formal spectrum of documentary realism to assemblage, gave a workshop at USI in fall of 2019.

At 4:30pm Thursday, September 9, Nichols and Southard will deliver artist talks. Their lectures will be held in the Dunn Lobby of the Performance Center, in University Center East. The talks are free and open to the public, following all appropriate COVID-19 protocol.

The McCutchan Art Center / Pace Galleries, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center, is open to the public for the 2021-22 academic year. Gallery hours are from 10am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday and 1pm to 4pm Sundays. If you plan to bring a group of ten or more people to the galleries, please consider contacting the gallery in advance. For more information, visit USI.edu/liberal-arts/art-center-galleries/.
