CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Vincennes University Trailblazer Golf team took part in a quick practice round at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. for the Region 24 Spring Tournament Preview Friday morning.
The Trailblazers were able to gain helpful and useful knowledge of the course ahead of the Region 24 Championship Tournament to be played during the first weekend of May.
Vincennes was led on the scorecard by sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) who finished with a six-over 78 on the round, which placed him in a tie for seventh overall.
Freshman Caleb Maris (Terre Haute, Ind.) was the next lowest scorer for the round, ending with an 84 on the day.
Maris’ played the round as an individual scorer, as VU Head Golf Coach Dennis Chattin was trying to get more guys a chance to see the Region Championship golf course.
Freshman Luke VanDeventer (Columbus, Ind.) was the third VU finisher, ending one shot behind Maris with an 85, good for 24th place.
Freshman Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) finished in a tie for 34th with an 88 for the round.
Freshmen Sam Stewart (Floyds Knob, Ind.) and Adam Leach (North Vernon, Ind.) rounded out the VU scorers Friday, with Stewart ending his round with a 91 and Leach finishing with a 93.
The young Trailblazer golf team will look to continue to build confidence and continue to improve as VU gets set to take part in the Lincoln Trail Spring Invitational Monday, April 11 at Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson, Ill.
