On Monday, June 10, 2013 at approximately 12:50pm, deputies were dispatched to Mohr Road and St. Joseph Avenue for a moped and pickup truck crash. Deputies were advised the crash occurred at the intersection and caller thinks the moped rider is deceased.
When deputies arrived, they found a blue moped had struck a brown, Chevy Z71 on the passenger side. The driver of the moped, identified as Gary Whittington, had been ejected from the moped and was lying on the ground just west of the intersection. Gary was conscious and did not appear to have life threatening injuries.
Deputies interviewed the driver of the Chevy, Anna Wildeman, who stated she was west bound on Mohr Road approaching St. Joseph Avenue. Anna said she looked and did not see any cross traffic so she proceeded through the intersection.
Deputies also interviewed several witnesses on the scene who all confirmed Anna’s statement.
Emergency personnel transported Gary to Deaconess Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Anna was not injured.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. Gary was not wearing a helmet and it is unknown at this time weather or not Anna was wearing a seat belt.
