Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville, fifth from left) and Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville, third from left) welcome local leaders representing the University of Southern Indiana (USI) to the Statehouse to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the institution. Tomes and Becker led the Senate in recognizing USI on 50 years of excellence in education and community engagement with Senate Concurrent Resolution 36. USI plans to celebrate their 50-year anniversary for an entire year with a lecture series, art displays, student activities and a capstone event in September. Congratulations USI for 50 years of outstanding performance. I drove though the campus yesterday taking photographs of the beautiful scenery and buildings. My how this University has grown since I took classes out there in 1974. The campus has changed so much for the better. USI certainly has left it’s mark (good one) on Vanderburgh County and most all of Southern IN. I was a Junior in High School when the ISUE opened it’s door in the Old School near St Joseph Ave. I remember some of the Seniors from my High School on the Hill signing up to attend ISUE for the first year that they offered college level classes.
