The Frontier League has named Evansville Otters shortstop Toby Thomas the Player of the Week.
Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation, chooses the weekly award.
In earning the award, Thomas went 12 for 24 with a .500 batting average as the Otters went 4-2 against the Joliet Slammers and Normal Cornbelters last week.
He also finished with three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs over the six-game span.
Thomas earned the first league honor for Evansville this season after four players received league honors in 2017.
A Mobile, Ala. native, Thomas played in the Chicago White Sox organization from 2013-17 after being drafted in the 21st round out of Pensacola Junior College.
He saw time in Bristol, Kannapolis, Great Falls, Winston-Salem and Birmingham during his five seasons. In his affiliated professional career, Thomas has appeared in 413 games and he batted .263 with 21 home runs and 165 RBIs.
In nine games with Evansville this season, Thomas leads the team with a .436 batting average and he is second in RBIs with eight. He also leads the Otters in hits with 17—including five doubles and three home runs.
Following a day off Monday, Evansville begins a six-game road trip Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as the Otters will play the Windy City Thunderbolts in a three-game series May 22-24 before traveling to Traverse City this weekend for another three-game series.
The Otters will return home for a three-game series May 30-31 against the Florence Freedom.
Fans can also follow Otters social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for game updates throughout the road trip.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions. Season tickets, group outing packages, and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2018 season.
