Immigration, refugees are topics of USI’s continued series on civility

Dr. David W. Haines, professor emeritus of sociology and anthropology at George Mason University, will present “Refuge in America,” at 7p.m. Monday, March 27 in Carter Hall in University Center West. This presentation is part of the University of Southern Indiana speaker series related to civility. Previous speakers in the series included author and social critic Os Guinness and Senator Richard Lugar and Congressman Lee Hamilton. The event is free and open to the public. Read More

USI to host seventh annual Law Day

The University of Southern Indiana will host the seventh annual Law Day beginning at 1 p.m Wednesday, March 29. The Court of Appeals of Indiana will hear oral arguments in the case of Melvin Wolfe v. State at 1 p.m. in Carter Hall. In addition to the oral arguments, USI’s Law Day will feature keynote speaker Dr. Stephen L. Wasby, professor emeritus of political science at the Univeristy of Albany – SUNY, who will present, “After Scalia, Now What?” at 7 p.m. in Carter Hall.  Read More

Poets Annie Kim and Jenny Molberg to visit USI

The University of Southern Indiana will host poets Annie Kim and Jenny Molberg for a public reading at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 in Traditions Lounge in the University Center. Kim, a graduate of the Warren Wilson College Master of Fine Arts Program for Writers, and a Virginia Center for the Creative Arts fellow, has appeared in Mudlark, Ninth Letter, Asian American Literary Review, and elsewhere. Molberg currently teaches at the University of Central Missouri and is co-editor of the University magazine Pleiades. Read More

New Harmony Gallery to host Print Invitational inspired by 1800’s publication

The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is hosting the exhibition, The Disseminator of Useful Knowledge Print Invitational and Exchange now through April 8. Works in the exhibition were inspired from the 1800’s New Harmony publication, The Disseminator of Useful Knowledge. A closing reception for the exhibition will be held at the gallery from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. The Disseminator of Useful Knowledge Print Invitational and Exchange is free and open to the public. Read More

Southwest Indiana AHEC co-sponsors “African Americans and the Disability Experience” exhibit

Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC) is partnering with the Evansville African American Museum for a special exhibition, African Americans and the Disability Experience: From Colonial Times, Desegregation, Advocacy and Achievement, April 7-26. USI springs forward with 10K race

The University of Southern Indiana Romain Subaru Screaming Eagles Running Series, an annual three-race series held on and around the University of Southern Indiana campus, concludes Saturday, April 8 with the Spring into Fitness 10k.Registration for the Spring into Fitness 10K is $20 until April 1, and $25 up until race day. Registration is available online or at the USI Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center the day of the event. Read More

Tree of 40 Fruit workshop to be held in New Harmony

The Tree of 40 Fruit artist is coming back to New Harmony, Indiana to give a free workshop to the community. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, April 8. The first 25 participants to arrive will be given their own starter tree. Sam Van Aken, the artist behind the Tree of 40 Fruit, will be working on the hybrid trees planted in the orchard by New Harmony’s Atheneum. This free workshop is a part of his biannual visits to ensure stability of the two trees. Read More

The University of Southern Indiana will host a presentation by Laura Johnston Kohl, a Jonestown Survivor and author of Jonestown Survivor: An Insider’s Look, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 10 in Carter Hall located in University Center West. The presentation, entitled “Jonestown Survivor – Evolution of Peoples Temple in the 1960s and 1970s,” is free and open to the public. Read More

33rd Heritage Artisans Days continue to align with grade school curriculum

Historic New Harmony’s 33rd Annual Heritage Artisans Days will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 19- 21, in New Harmony, Indiana. This tristate tradition celebrates 19th century arts, crafts and industry through demonstrations and activities. The event continues to be a hands-on educational experience for school groups from Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Read More

USI, SWI-AHEC partner with EVSC for Public Health Camp

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center (SICTC), in collaboration with Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC), is hosting a one-week summer public health camp, Go Viral: Be a Disease Detective. The camp is for students currently in the seventh and eighth grades in Gibson, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties who are interested in exploring epidemiology and careers in public health. Read More
