dear taxpayers friend, the average poll worker arrives at 5am to get the polls ready to open at 6, they work til 6pm the closing time, and then have to balance the booksand deliver the results downtown, which is 7pm if everything goes right, later if it doesnt. thats a minimum of 14 hours. Then they are required to attend a trainiing session that lasts an hour or so and with a minimum of travel time you are over 16 hours, all for the princley sum of $80=90 which includes meal money. no wonder it’s hard to get poll workers and providing them with a bit of food is the least we can do in hopes they will come back next time. I have been fortunate enough to have my team back for 5 years in a row, and with careful budgeting it only cost me $75 out of pocket. we got $100 2 years ago, before Weinzapfel started taking all the contributions for himself and the committee started donating it all to their tame candidates.
We never got $100 in the primary election as precinct committeemen. That’s a lie. We did get $100 in the general elections for a while, but never in the primaries. In the primaries we got $25 – $75 depending on whether all the candidates paid their assessments and whether it was a countywide election where there are many more candidates to share the committeemen’s cost. That’s the damned truth, and you, henry are not telling the truth.
Now, how many of your “reform” candidates paid their assessments? How many of them are paying the committeemen anything whatsoever for their election day costs? The assessments always were used to pay the committeemen their election day costs. So, how about it henry? Tell the truth.
Furthermore, the poll workers are paid for their work. And used to, meals were supplied by churches or other organizations. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now the poll workers are asked to pack their own meals, and there was more money added to the daily pay to compensate for the meals that the poll workers pack in. That’s the damned truth, henry, and what you are saying is not true. Everyone agreed to this. To pack their own meals and get paid extra. This started a few years back, and maybe you just decided to cause some trouble today by not telling the truth!
Back to my question: What has your goody goody two shoes reform candidates done to support the committemen? Not a damned thing! They even caused the central committee Fall Festival booth to be towed away, taking even that cash cow away from the committeemen and the party. Come on, henry, tell the truth for once.
When I said “used to the meals were supplied by churches and other groups,” the election office paid for those meals. Each precinct committeeman signed a warrant so the people who delivered the meals got paid for that service. When we stopped that system, that money went to the workers at the polls .. the clerk, judge, inspector, etc. Now that’s the truth, henry. Yes, the Democrat judge and the Republican inspector are the two who get over $100 per day, and that’s not much for 14 hours work, but they voluntarily signed up. They know the rules. They know the pay. They know they have to pack their lunch. So, stop crying and pack some donuts and coffee for your workers, and ask your reform candidates for some cash to compensate for all the problems they’ve caused our party … for all the things they did that have strapped the party for cash. Oh, and while you’re at it, look at Troy’s finance report and you’ll see that $3,500 is a repayment of a loan Troy made to the party at the end of last year’s election. Start telling the truth, henry, or you’re gonna get the same reputation as the “reform” candidates who are fabricating stories about their residency, their reasons for running, the Fall Festival fiasco, and many, many other paranoid fairytales they’ve concocted.
