To help Indiana’s nearly 100,000 public retirees, like law enforcement officers and teachers, I co-authored legislation to provide a one-time, post-retirement payment designed to help cover cost-of-living gaps.

Under the bill, a 13th check would be issued to public retirees with the payment amounts based on an employee’s number of years vested in their retirement plan. Also, the state would use existing, dedicated funds to make the payments. State excise police, gaming agents, gaming control officers, conservation officers and state police officers who are part of Indiana’s public pension program would also receive a 13th check. We have a great opportunity to help the men and women who served our state, especially during a time of high inflation.
