NOVEMBER 7, 2023

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — On election night Vanderburgh County Councilwoman Stephanie Terry was elected  Evansville’s next mayor by a comfortable margin.

She defeated Natalie Rascher (R) and Michael Daugherty (L) by gathering 48.5% of the vote.

Stephanie Terry made history by being elected as Evansville’s first black female Mayor.

She will replace current Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, who has been serving in that position since 2012.

  1. The Libertarians exerted their strength by electing a Democrat who shared their values. Usual Libertarian influence on an election, right?

    • Yeeeep. I’m concerned that her objectives will be more towards social engineering. But all our politics are purple, so not sure if the results will be any different. She is our mayor and I will give her the support, encouragement, and congradulations due.

      • I doubt if she’ll be any worse than Weinzaphel. I remember how Russ Jr. was derided by Weinie and the Courier for wanting a downtown baseball/concert stadium were the porn shop sets. Of course, we ended up with an open field were Roberts set and a taxpayer dollar drain called the Ford Center. The voters sent all of the incumbents back, so keep prepared for the upcoming onslaught. The exodus of middle class from the city limits families will continue, if not hasten.

  2. Your kidding? Out side money?l and a candidate that did not live in the city, typical Evansville cannot see the future because your too busy complaining.

  3. The number that stands out to me is less than twenty-two percent of the registered voters were interested enough to vote.

    • If I remember correctly, the last census for Evansville showed an increase in adults having not completed high school, a drop in adults with any college, and a drop in home ownership. Go figure. Given how easy it is to cast a ballot these days, less than 22% of eligible voters not caring who represents them or who spends their tax dollars is lazy for them and depressing for the rest of us.
