Stein and Drummond receive GLVC post-season honors

University of Southern Indiana freshman guard Alex Stein (Evansville, Indiana) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, while junior guard Bobo Drummond was named second-team All-GLVC.

Stein, who shared the Freshman of the Year honor with Delaney Blaylock from Lewis University, becomes the fourth Screaming Eagle to earn the first year honor. He follows Jeff Embry (1985), Chris Bowles (1991), Cris Brunson (2002), and Geoff Van Winkle (2004) in being named the GLVC’s top freshman.

The freshman guard ranks second on the team and 19th in the league in scoring with 14.2 points per contest. He is shooting 49.4 percent from the field (133-269), 38.8 percent from beyond the arc (31-80), and 83.2 percent from the charity stripe (114-137).

Stein has scored a season-high 26 points in the win over Missouri University of Science & Technology. He also grabbed five rebounds in the victory over Truman State and dished nine assists in the triumph over McKendree University.

Drummond earns second-team All-GLVC honors after averaging 13.2 points per game, which is third on the team and 23rd in the GLVC. He is averaging a team-best 2.75 three-point field goals, ranking third in the conference. The junior guard scored a season-high versus Quincy University, grabbed eight rebounds in the GLVC first round game against Rockhurst University, and dished 10 assists in the win over Purdue University North Central.

The Eagles resume GLVC Tournament action Friday at noon when they take on Bellarmine University at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. USI is the eighth seed in the tournament, while Bellarmine is the top seed.
