SPANK! is “Fifty Shades” of Funny

It was a naughty night out on Wednesday night for more than 1,000 area women (and a number of men who were talked into escorting them) who came to see SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody at the Victory Theatre. While the show primarily pokes over-the-top fun at the popular Fifty Shades of Grey book trilogy, a number of other pop culture hallmarks were hilariously spoofed during the laugh-a-second production. The three person cast, consisting of Amanda Barker as bawdy writer “E.B. Janet,” Alice Moran as ingenue “Tasha Woode” and Gabe Bowling as the sexy, autocratic billionaire “Hugh Hanson” played well off each other in semi-improv

performances that included a lot of interaction with the delighted audience.

“It was delightful to see a production of this size do so well at drawing the audience into the performance,” said General Manager Ben Bolander. “This style of off-Broadway entertainment can do very well in Evansville, and the Victory Theatre hopes to fill that niche for years to come.”

The Victory Theatre has an active summer schedule with upcoming shows that include B.B. King June 5, Jagged Edge June 15, The 2013 Jägermeister Country Tour featuring Aaron Lewis June 23, Gregg Allman June 25, “Weird Al” Yankovic – The Alpocalypse Tour July 27, and Don Williams October 17.
