Aces Fall To Ramblers By 5-0 Final Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Taking on Loyola in its opening Missouri Valley Conference Championship game for the second year in a row, the University of Evansville softball team fell to the Ramblers by a 5-0 score on Wednesday at Killian Stadium.

UE completes the season with a 24-27 record.  The Purple Aces finished the contest with seven hits, all from different players.  Izzy Vetter started her final collegiate game, allowing five runs in six frames.

Loyola wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring the first run of the game in the first on an RBI single from Abbey Jacobsen.  After Alexa Davis recorded Evansville’s first hit of the day in the second, Bella Coffey and Mackenzie McFeron picked up 1-out singles in the third to put runners in scoring position.  Two outs followed to halt the opportunity.

In the bottom half of the third, the Ramblers struck again on a Tori Boysen RBI hit before Madison Ebeling hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to extend the advantage to 3-0.  It looked as if the Aces were back in business in the fifth when bunt singles from Hannah Hood and Zoe Frossard led things off, but the runners were stranded on base and LUC’s shutout remained intact.

Two more Ramblers runs scored in the 6th, leaving Evansville down to its final three outs.  Pinch hitter Alyssa Barela opened the seventh with a single before three consecutive outs completed the game.  Jacobsen went 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI.  Peyton Pepkowski was the winning pitcher for LUC.  In 6.0+ scoreless innings, she allowed seven hits and struck out eight Aces batters.
