The Shoulders Family Commons Lecture Series will present “She Loves You to Sgt. Pepper: Rock & Roll Becomes High Art,†a lecture by Author and Professor Glenn Gass. The lecture will take place on Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. in the Shoulders Family Commons at Harrison High School.
Gass is Provost Professor of Music in General Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He teaches a series of courses he developed on the history of rock and popular music that were the first to be offered through a music school. They are now the longest running courses of their kind in the world.
Gass is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Herman B. Wells Lifetime Achievement Award, Indiana University Sylvia Bowman Distinguished Teaching Award, IU Student Alumni Association Student Choice Award, and Society of Professional Journalists Brown Derby Award. He was inducted into the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching and is the author of A History of Rock Music: The Rock & Roll Era (MCGraw-Hill, 1994).
