The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Evansville man this afternoon after he fled from a series of hit-and-run crashes and threatened a north-side homeowner.
Mr. Demetrius I. Glover caused three traffic crashes along North Highway 57 (SR-57), North Green River Road, and Millersburg Road shortly before 1:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024. During one of the incidents, a construction worker reported being nearly struck by Glover’s vehicle. Deputies in the area began searching for Glover’s gray Chrysler 300 sedan, which had fled from the scene of each crash. The Sheriff spotted the suspect vehicle at the intersection of St. George Road and US 41, where he observed Glover outside his vehicle inspecting the damage to his car. When the traffic signal turned green, Glover sped off with the Sheriff in pursuit. At one point the rear bumper cover fell off the vehicle and into the road. The Sheriff lost sight of the vehicle but was then directed behind the Mill Street Baptist Church by an Emergency Management Agency employee who witnessed the pursuit.
The Sheriff found the vehicle unoccupied but then noticed Glover carrying a handgun while walking between two residences on Pemberton Avenue. Glover refused commands to stop and ran behind houses with the Sheriff in chase. Glover made it to the woods east of Meadowridge Road and could not be immediately located. Sheriff’s Office deputies and Evansville Police Department (EPD) officers then formed a perimeter around the area Glover was last seen and began searching with K-9s. Glover’s handgun was then recovered outside a residence in the 4400 block of Meadowridge Road. An EPD officer later located Glover in the area of the Fairfax Road cul-de-sac and took him into custody without further incident.
Sheriff’s deputies later learned that during the search, Glover had threatened to kill a resident on Meadowridge Road if she called the police and altered them to his presence. After being transported by the Sheriff’s Office to the hospital for a blood draw and medical clearance, Glover was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
