Previewing the Matchup: No. 10 NC State

  • The Aces and Wolfpack meet for the first time ever with the weekend three-game series in Raleigh, N.C.
  • Evansville holds a 45-62 all-time record against current members of the ACC with .500-or-better records against Boston College (2-0), Louisville (28-27), Virginia (1-0), and Wake Forest (2-2).
  • Over the last 10 seasons, the Aces are 4-6 in season openers and are 3-4 all-time against Power 5 teams in season openers since joining NCAA Division I in 1977, including a 3-2 win over 12th ranked Georgia last season.

Returning Pitching

  • The bulk of Evansville’s pitching staff returns in the white and purple for the 2022 campaign.
  • Of the 455 innings pitches by the Aces’ staff, Evansville brings back pitchers who pitched 364.2 innings, including 22 of 28 wins and the top three pitchers in ERA (Drew Dominik, Shane Gray, and Jakob Meyer).

Going Up Top

  • The Aces smashed 45 home runs a season ago and the 2022 campaign should see little drop-off in that department.
  • Both of the Aces top power hitters return with Tanner Craig recording a team-high 12 homers last season and Danny Borgstrom, who tallied nine ding- ers, returning to the fold for 2022.

Building a Challenge

  • Evansville has been intentional in how it scheduled the 2022 slate.
  • Of the 56 games on the schedule, seven are against teams ranked in the preseason top 25 poll.
  • The first four games of the season come against teams that reached the 2021 College World Series.
  • In all, four of Evansville’s opponents made the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament and 16 games will be played against Power 5 opponents.
