Schrader, who won the steeplechase as a freshman in 2012, finished the race in 11 minutes, 18.76 seconds. She garners first-team All-GLVC honors with her effort.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles are currently third with 23 points after receiving strong efforts from freshmen Crystal Blair and Cathryn Peter as well as junior Skylair Hilton. Blair was sixth in the pole vault, while Peter and Hilton posted sixth-place showings in the 10,000 meters and steeplechase, respectively.
Junior Vanessa Higdon paced the Eagles’ throwers with an eighth-place showing in the shot put.
The University of Indianapolis recorded 63 points to grab the day-one lead, while host Lewis University is second with 39 points. USI has a three-point lead over Missouri University of Science & Technology, which is currently fourth after the first day of competition.
The GLVC Outdoor Championships resume Saturday at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon. All other events begin at noon.
