Indiana Justice Robert Rucker used the occasion of an oral argument Thursday at his high school alma mater to announce he will retire from the Indiana Supreme Court on May 12, the court announced.
Rucker made the announcement after arguments at Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy, formerly known as Gary Roosevelt High School. The court traveled to Lake County to hear Danny Sims v. Andrew Pappas and Melissa Pappas, 45S03-1701-CT-26. The question for justices in that case is whether evidence of decades-old crimes can be considered in a civil negligence suit.
After Rucker announced he would retire sometime this spring, 21 people applied to succeed him. The Judicial Nominating Commission Wednesday announced the schedule to interview 20 eligible applicantslater this month.
