LIBERTY, Mo.—Sophomore Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) recorded a pair of top-three finishes to lead the University of Southern Indiana women’s track & field team to a 10th-place finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend.
Roberts finished third in the 1,500 meters and second in the 5,000 meters Saturday to earn second-team All-GLVC honors and account for 14 of the Screaming Eagles’ 42.5 points. She also had the Eagles’ lone NCAA II provisional qualifying time with her mark on the weekend with her mark of four minutes, 32.29 seconds in the 1,500 meters.
Junior Cathryn Peter (Tell City, Indiana) was third in the steeplechase to aid the Eagles, while freshman Hope Jones (Cumberland, Indiana) was fourth in the 10,000 meters.
The Eagles earned a total of 11 points in the steeplechase, with sophomores Kate Duty (Owensboro, Kentucky) and Jessica Lincoln (Palatine, Illinois) placing fifth and eighth, respectively, in the event. Junior Bailey Knable (New Albany, Indiana) added a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meters, while junior Crystal Blair (Bloomington, Indiana) and sophomore Jenna Martin (Evansville, Indiana) were sixth in the pole vault and long jump, respectively.
Senior Jamie Adkins (Owensboro, Kentucky) was seventh in the 5,000 meters and eighth in the 1,500 meters, while freshman Hilary Paxson (Liberty Center, Indiana) was eighth in the hammer throw to round out the Eagles’ scorers. Paxson also broke her own school record with her toss of 143 feet, 10.00 inches in the hammer throw.
Lewis University won the team title as the Flyers collected 213 points, 111 ahead of second-place Bellarmine University.
USI returns to action Thursday and Friday when it competes at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. The NCAA II Outdoor Championships are May 26-28 in Bradenton, Florida.
