Risley Electronics, Inc. dba Risley’s, of Evansville, Indiana announced today it will close its retail store located at 1717 N. Green River Road, Evansville, Indiana 47715 on Saturday, November 21, 2015.
Risley’s currently has 17 full-time and part-time employees.
An Inventory Liquidation Sale started Monday, November 9th and will conclude Saturday, November 21st where all in-stock merchandise will be for sale at significantly reduced prices.
A public auction of remaining inventory, store fixtures and equipment, vehicles, and real estate will be held at a later date, and details will be forthcoming.
President Mark Risley states: “Our business is profitable and financially sound. The closing of our store is necessary because of disagreements between the company’s owners and comes after much discussion and consideration.
“When my parents Dave and Betty started this business in 1958, it was with a focus on innovation, customer service, and integrity, and those principles continue to guide my decisions today. Risley’s is fortunate to have loyal customers, dedicated employees, and supportive vendors, and I thank each of them for their relationship.
“Certainly, Risley’s has seen many changes in the retail electronics industry in the past 57 years, and I intend to continue my interest in and passion for electronics in the Tri-State. I will provide updates about my plans for the future as they are determined.â€
That’s a shame. Risley’s has always been a place you can shop and the sales people can actually answer questions about their merchandise. It’s sort of like the difference in the old Kuester’s hardware stores and the big chains. None of the clerks seem to know anything about what they are selling in the chains, but at Kuester’s they did.
I consider that the Walmart phenomenon. When you pay cheaply you get cheap stuff and nowhere can you find anyone who knows how the heck the merchandise works. It is amazing how we have found that we need less and less stuff over the last 25years and are living a good life. We repair well-made items that we need or if those are not repairable we question if we really need them. I really don’t think one saves that much at Walmart considering the hassle and the inconvenience of shopping there. Good Mom and Pop stores need to be supported.
