    Riecken Criticizes Winnecke for Lack of Transparency and Accountability

    June 22, 2015. – Evansville, IN

    n a video released today, Democratic mayoral candidate Gail Riecken calls on Mayor Winnecke to stop spending tax dollars the city doesn’t have.

    Riecken states “With each passing year, our General Fund starts out with less money than the year before.  Our city credit card is becoming maxed out.  We cannot continue to borrow future money to pay the city’s bills today. This type of action is unsustainable. “

    Riecken also calls on the Mayor for transparency and accountability, as the Mayor refused a visit to the City Council to answer questions about the hotel. Riecken says the Mayor shows a lack of respect to the citizens of Evansville for not presenting his budget plan before the August hearings and pledges, as mayor, to present her fiscal priorities prior to the official meeting so citizens can have input.

    “I pledge to you that, as mayor, I will lay out my fiscal priorities prior to the official budget hearings, so all Evansville citizens can have an opportunity to look at, question, and give input on it,” says Riecken.

    1. Thank you, Gail, for committing to a degree of transparency that the citizens deserve. It will be good to have a Mayor who has some respect for taxpayers, instead of one who treats us like cattle.

    2. Riecken has talked the talk. So did Winnecke during his campaign. Who do I trust? Neither – but at least Gail hasn’t proven to be untrustworthy – – yet.

      I agree, but how will you cut spending when you are supporting the same projects and more? And what in your record shows that you are fiscally conservative? I am not playing gotcha,” I am looking for substance. What’s your vision? What’s your plan?

      Transparency should be a given not a campaign issue. To me it’s nothing but meaningless platitudes.

      • IE–The Political reality for the Citizens is that Riecken is the only choice, like it or not. I agree with your call for more depth to her candidacy would be nice, it seems that is the direction she is going.
        It’s 4months until the election, so time will tell.
        As far as Winnecke as a Candidate is concerned,—the wisdom of old prevails,–“You knew I was a Snake when you picked me up”,–I see no sensible reasoning for picking up (voting for) that Snake again,
        — odds of getting bitten are 100% .

        • We knew it before his ‘election’. He got caught trying to go south with the Homestead Tax Credit and, through Machiavellian machinations, was elected mayor anyway. He was a snake that was still hissing when the electorate passed over a much better man and planted him in the mayor’s office. We must not let him take root there. If we give the scoundrel a 3rd chance, we have no excuse, the fault is ours.

          I think Gail has been a pretty open representative. No one knows for sure what the future will bring. We can look to the past for clues. It is highly unlikely that Winnecke will change his stripes, in fact he has become arrogant while in office. In weatherman speak, he’s like a perpetual cold front parked over Evansville.

          • What’s Gail Riecken ever did to make you think she’s a snake? I personally know of some extremely good things she’s done that would astound you if you knew. You will waste your vote on Winnecke, a failed mayor. That is a shame.

            • Ran off to Urbana with our Constitution for one thing. I could actually overlook that if there was any indication that she is not part of the machine but a true agent of change. Tell me what is truly different about her than our last two mayors other than her gender? What vision does she have that is different? You giddy for Gail guys are being just as fooled as you were with the promise of weinzapfel’s arena. It will just be more of the same. The only motivation I have to vvvote for Gail is to show the giddites that I was right. But if I am wrong about her, it would still be a win for me.

            • Enoch’s still Wankin’ for Winnecke. Looking for his constitution that he think Gail ran off to Urbana with. He forgot to look in Indianapolis, it’s been there all along, intact and doing as it’s always done. His vote will go to Lloyd Winnecke because Winnecke is running as a Republican. He is also still angry that Gail ran against his man The Ho for his seat in the House of Representatives.

              Calling Gail Riecken a snake shows the depth of Enoch’s political acumen. She is a fine person and an asset to the area. Folks like her do manage to bring the snake out of others though.

          • No snakes are Chaucerian frauds like Jerry Falwell, and Joel Osteen, and Joyce Meyers and the lot who bilk people out of their money for performing medieval rituals over them to give them “everlasting life”; something the modern world knows is against all the physical laws of the universe.

            Snakes are people like Dick Cheney and his gangster band of neocons who go on Sunday talk shows and talk about “mushroom clouds” and plant lying stories in the NY times and pass out phony intelligence reports to the Senate Intelligence committee to bully and browbeat Senators into voting for the Iraq war and then turning around and saying “See Hillary and Kerry voted for it”. He netted nearly a $100M from the IRAQ war, he probably giggles himself to sleep every night knowing what he got away with.

            Snakes are people like Rick Perry who said the Charleston shooting was an accident.

            Snakes are people like Bill O’Reilly who goes on air every night to thrash liberal strawmen and push his phony outrage machine and “War on christmas” garbage.

            Snakes are people like Sean Hannity who trumpet racist tax scofflaws like Cliven Bundy as heros.

            Snakes are people like Mitch McConnell who gets his jollies trying to take away health insurance from millions of Americans so he can score some cheap political points and he calls Kynect the very program that helps hundreds of THOUSANDS of his own constituents get the healthcare hey need “just a website”. He also probably pinches himself wondering how he is getting away with all this.

            Snakes are people like John Boehner who tell DREAMERS to their face he’ll introduce the immigration bill for an up or down vote and never does. Boehner doesn’t pinch himself, he can’t, he’s drunk by 5:30 6 everyday.

            Snakes are people like the Koch brothers who do everything in their power to corrupt the US government to the very core.

            Snakes are people who want to humiliate and demean gay people until gay teenage boys
            commit suicide.

            And the head snakes are people like Wayne LePuke and his demon puppeteers, the gun lobbyists and manufacturers. All of them probably cackle with glee every time there is a mass shooting, delighting over more gun sales.

    4. Where’s Winnecke on this? On any of this?

      He hides away, won’t come before Council to answer ANY questions.

      So much for his campaign promises.

    5. Gail has proven herself in Indianapolis. Let’s give the same opportunity as Mayor of Evansville! Gail is correct in saying we need more transparency in our city government. Evansville is spending more than what we have in the bank!
