Dear Fellow Hoosier,
I want to share with you an update on the work I have been doing in my first year in the United States Congress for the great constituents I represent across Indiana’s 8th Congressional District.
I am privileged to have a great team supporting my efforts as they assist me daily in delivering important results for you and your family.
Here is a sample of the work we’ve been doing both in Washington and at home in Indiana’s 8th.
Serving Hoosiers Directly
I’ve been helping constituents navigate the federal government – which is one of my top priorities since taking office:
- More than $2 million has been returned directly to constituents!
- My office has closed nearly 400 cases with constituents, delivering them the solutions they desire.
- Over 42,000 constituent communications have been sent from my office to Hoosiers, ensuring we work in concert with those who make their voices heard.
Legislative Progress
In Congress, I’ve worked to advance meaningful federal legislation:
- I have introduced 14 bills as a lead sponsor on issues that matter most to voters.
- I have cosponsored 159 other pieces of legislation led by my House colleagues.
- I have successfully passed two of my authored bills in the House of Representatives.
- The INSTRUCT Act – which is a portion of the DETERRENT Act – provides much needed transparency related to any foreign gifts American colleges and universities receive.
- The FAST VETS Act – ensures veterans can better access VA resources designed to help them reintegrate into the workforce.
Key Legislation
Bills I am particularly proud to have introduced include:
- Heat Workforce Standards Act – which blocks overly broad OSHA heat regulations that overburden small businesses and exceed OSHA’s authority.
- Golden Dome Act of 2025 – which advances President Trump’s vision for a missile defense system to protect the homeland and our allies.
- Forced Abortion Prevention and Accountability Act – which establishes federal penalties for administering abortion-inducing drugs without a woman’s informed consent.
Advocacy & Oversight
- I have engaged extensively with the Trump Administration’s Cabinet, advocating for Hoosier farmers and local industries – which includes having sent over 50 letters of record to create federal interaction with businesses in Indiana.
- I have been privileged to host two Cabinet Secretaries right here in Indiana’s 8th District:
- Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins came to visit our local Evansville VA facility.
- Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy came to oversee my federal funding request for the I-69 bridge project site.
Economic Wins for Crane and the Indiana Defense Industry
- I secured up to $1 billion in reconciliation funding for defense programs at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.
- I secured over $500 million for the Southwest Indiana defense industrial base through the National Defense Authorization Act.
- I secured more than $1.5 billion in energy investments for Indiana’s 8th District.
- I serve as Co-Chair of the Congressional Hypersonics Caucus.
I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in my first year on Capitol Hill, but there is still important work ahead.
I look forward to bringing home many more accomplishments to Indiana’s 8th District and will continue to stay laser-focused on the people I am so honored to represent.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office if I can be of assistance at Messmer.House.Gov, or by calling (202) 225-4636.
Sincerely,
