  1. President Trump gave a speech for the ages. The opposing team wore white uniforms and scowled at all things American. The opposing team in white uniforms cheered only when celebrating their own election. The ugly partisanship demonstrated by the white uniforms was on full display for all Americans to see. So sad when there is so much work to do. So sad when the President gets more cooperation from the pudgy N Korean dictator than the opposing team in white uniforms.

    • It looked the “ladies in white” were representatives of Iran given their body language and facial expressions.

During Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan wore pins bearing the image of 7-year-old Jakelin Ameí Rosmery Caal Maquin, one of the two children who died while in federal immigration custody last December due to Trump’s illegal policies

Eight-year-old Felipe Gómez Alonzo, who also died that same month, was buried just days ago. His sister recalled some of the last words he said to her: “When he left, he said: ‘I am a little young now, but when I arrive there, I am going to grow up, I will study and look for a job and I am going to send you money and buy clothes for my mom.’”

Remember Jakelin. Remember Felipe, children who DIED because of Trump

        • Ronald, good point. The Empire’s storm troopers in their white battle gear appear to be representatives of the migrant caravans.

    • Well, we can tell Joe is back in his office at Civic Center with Internet access, since he is back spewing his usual right-wing Trumpsucking crap

His “speech for the ages” was just more of the same right-wing crap he is always ranting with. No substance, no suggestions, just more of the “I Am The Great Wizard” when he actually is seen as the worst president in history

      • RR, sorry, but Obama was the worst president since the Civil War. He made Jimmy Carter look great.

        • Once again, the Trumpsuckers ignore the facts, considering President Barack Obama has been considered the Most Admired Man in America for the 11th CONSECUTIVE YEAR!

President Barack Obama is now one first-place finish from tying another former president, Dwight D. Eisenhower for the most times topping the list.

          Count them with us:

          2008
          2009
          2010
          2011
          2012
          2013
          2014
          2015
          2016
          2017
          2018

Even after he left the Presidency, Trump could NOT get consideration for THREE YEARS IN A ROW! This year marks only the 13th time in 72 measurements the incumbent president did not win. Gallup first asked the question in 1946 and has done so every year since other than 1976.

And when Trump NEVER manages to get that title, he will become the ONLY incumbent to do so.

Talk about a race to the bottom

          • I think it was the same ones that gave Caitlyn Jenner the woman of the year award,so that just proves they are a special kind of stupid

    • The usual crap from a website ran by Hoft, called “The Stupidest Man On The Internet”

The top of the CBS poll page showed “As is often the case in State of the Union addresses, the people who watched tonight’s speech leaned more towards the president’s own party”

Considering CBS notes “This CBS News survey is based on 1,472 interviews of U.S. adults who watched the State of the Union address on Tuesday night” it had CBS polling remark that among those who watched Tuesday night’s address, 43 percent of respondents were rightwingers, so it was the usual right-wing blindness that helped bolster the overall approval of the address.

Maybe show what else CBS polling showed:

“In a CBS News poll last month we asked Americans how they would rate the state of the union, and only 35 percent rate it as either good (30 percent) or great (5 percent), while six in 10 rate it as bad (27 percent). Just 30 percent say the country is headed in the right direction, just more negative than a year ago”

“Americans give the president low marks and are pessimistic about the direction of the country”

“In January 2018, 58 percent disapproved of how Mr. Trump was handling his job as president. Topping previous disapproval record by one percentage point”

“On his handling of specific issues, a majority of Americans disapprove of his handling of health care and immigration, and on his handling of the threat of terrorism. Americans are a little more negative about how the president is handling the economy than they were a year ago, and now a majority disapprove”

“Few Americans believe North Korea has reduced its nuclear program since the last Trump-Kim summit, and most don’t think there should be another summit now”

Yeah, those crazy CBS polling folks….

  2. Trump State Of The Union Polled Well … Because Republicans Watched It

State of the Union audiences generally skew toward the president’s party.

Polls from CNN and CBS News conducted shortly after the big address found that viewers generally approved of what the president had to say. That makes sense, because generally, a greater proportion of people who watch the State of the Union address tend to be from the president’s party

IN OTHER WORDS, OF COURSE REPUBLICAN VIEWERS THOUGHT TRUMP DID A GOOD JOB

But as CNN notes, Trump’s high approval ratings for his 2019 speech are due at least in part to the partisan nature of the audience. In fact, the speech had the “largest partisan tilt measured in any CNN instant poll following a presidential address to Congress back to 2001,” journalist Jennifer Agiesta wrote. People who watched this year’s State of the Union were 17 points likelier than the general public to identify as Republicans, and Republicans, of course, liked what Trump had to say

Eighty-seven percent of Republican viewers had a positive reaction to Trump’s speech. 64 percent of Democrats, however, had a negative reaction

The CBS News poll had similar findings. According to the survey, 76 percent of Americans who watched the State of the Union approved of Trump’s performance, and 24 percent disapproved. But the audience was more Republican than the American populace, per CBS:

In the latest CBS national poll released last month, 25 percent of Americans identified themselves as Republicans. Among those who watched Tuesday night’s address, that figure was 43 percent, and Republicans helped bolster the overall approval of the address

Just because viewers liked the speech doesn’t necessarily mean they think it will make much of a difference

IN THE CNN POLL, 53 PERCENT OF VIEWERS SAID THEY DIDN’T THINK THE PRESIDENT WOULD SUCCEED IN FOSTERING MORE COOPERATION BETWEEN DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS

According to both polls, viewers liked what Trump said on items such as the economy, immigration, and national security. But again, THIS WAS LARGELY TRUMP PREACHING TO THE CHOIR, as most presidents do during the State of the Union

A lot of Trump’s speech sounded nice. A LOT OF WHAT HE SAID ALSO WASN’T REAL

Then there was the Nixon imitation when when Trump insisted Democratic investigations of him need to end. “If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation”

And he made multiple misleading statements and exaggerations

Folks like Joe and “The Stupidest Man On The Internet” at Gateway ignore that much of his SOTU doesn’t line up with reality. Trump called for a rejection of the “politics of revenge” but he just oversaw the longest government shutdown in American history because he refused to compromise with Democrats. He said he wants people to come into the US legally, but he’s tried to cut legal immigration. He touted an economic boom, but until he took office, he rejected the same numbers showing the economy was strong.

Trump delivered his address with Speaker Nancy Pelosi looming over his shoulder, a reminder of the midterm election he just lost. He spoke having delayed the State of the Union due to a government shutdown that TRUMP demanded and subsequently lost. He spoke of an approval rating of 41 percent, lower than his predecessor, Barack Obama, during the worst of the Great Recession

Trump hasn’t yet taken a victory lap on his State of the Union approval ratings, but at some point, he probably will. If and when he does, it’s important to remember that the audience was largely a friendly one. And a lot of what he said doesn’t line up with reality
