Both are paranoid, exhibit a toxic blend of superiority and inferiority toward the other, are scornful of less extreme members of their own communities, and are nostalgic for an imagined past of cultural dominance

     The conviction that local elites are aiding and abetting the enemy by betraying their own culture and people is a common refrain among white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the alt-right. Such a belief is the root of the shooters absurd assertion that “NGOs are directly involved in the genocide of the European people” and he echos the founding father of political Islam when he writes that the West has become a “society of rampant nihilism, consumerism and individualism.”

     The New Zealand right-wing terrorist claims that his actions were motivated by the urgent need to avert a supposed “white genocide” a popular myth in far-right circles which maintains, absurdly, that there is a conspiracy in motion to kill off the white race. Outlandish conspiracy theories are common fodder in both far-right and Islamist circles, including anti-Semitic tropes about the world being controlled by a cabal of secretive, wealthy Jews

     If the extremists (like the right wing) prevail they will rent apart their own societies supposedly to protect them against the perceived enemies from within and without. We must use all the social, economic, political and intellectual tools at our disposal to avert such a catastrophe

         Smollett will only give Trump more fodder with which to denigrate the city of Chicago, which he has routinely characterized as if it were some kind of blood-drenched hellscape. Now he’ll have a face to put with the name “black people” because Trump is far more comfortable dunking on prominent black figures but won’t criticize dictators with the same fervor

         Trump jumped in head-first with the Smollett story since it’s deeply entrenched in issues of race and the right’s perception of the left’s inauthenticity. Even when Smollett was first arrested Trump weighed in early about his guilt while neglecting to address a right-wing plot revealed that same week by a white supremacist member of the Coast Guard to murder several prominent Democratic leaders

         As skepticism increases over the short interpretation of the Mueller Report and furor grows for a full accounting of what the special prosecutor found, Trump would rather shift the conversation away from consequences or policy to a space that he feels more comfortable wading into, a thunderdome for racial grievances

   The study just released is from January 20, 2017 thru April 7, 2019. This is a lengthy and statistically solid date range of over 2 years, representing almost a quarter-million responses (222,309)

   Trumps “approval” rating in the Hoosier State:
