The New Harmony Gazette was notified by Lora Arneberg on the evening of August 24th, that President Donald Trump has signed the legislation allowing the transfer of the title for the Harmony Way Bridge to the new Bi-State Bridge Authority.
This is a big step forward and removes many of the encumbrances of the old 1941 bill and moves the process of rehabilitating and opening the Harmony Way Bridge just that much closer. As it stands today, once Illinois has assigned trustees to their Illinois Authority, the Bi-State Authority can take title to the bridge from the current owner, the White County Bridge Commission. Once they have title to the bridge the Authority can then decide what the best use of the bridge will be and how they will finance the rehabilitation.
The Bridge Authority will have a public meeting at the New Harmony Town Hall on Wednesday, August 28th.
